Ego
The word Ego itself has often been looked down with disgrace in the sense that it is considered self defeating. It diverts our attention to something which drains our energy and stops from doing something worthwhile. It sways away from what is reasonable. As a matter of fact, it is fault finder or boosts negativity on many accounts.
First lets bring some clarity to what Ego is, what it stands for, why is it there in our basic features and last but not the least how much essential is its impact on our persona or existence. Knowing all these we can have an awareness how to deal with it, how to handle it well to our maximum benefit and growth.
Lets take an analogy of a case where we see Ego as something unnecessary we want to get rid of to be in best form. For example Fat in our body is essential to sustain energy while extra fat can stand against our feel good factor in terms of being in good shape and energy. Everyone wants to look good and fully charged. The dilemma is that sometimes our built goes out of proportion that we are alarmed to get rid of certain things for they outgrow like weeds thriving on our precious garden.
Ego is such intrinsic part of our being that we hardly notice it as a barrier to our well being. The repercussions of paying too much attention to ego can be anger, jealousy, fear, regret, disappointment, expectations and complaints . The list is unending as regards to angst it brings in our consciousness, hampering our growth in true sense . An inflated ego has the tendency to set us off track. Everything starts falling apart once this ego is boosted beyond a certain limit. Like an inflated balloon will burst after it no longer can hold the air pumped into it. It is but natural.
There are certain aspects to be taken care of in case of maintaining perfection. Getting rid of bloated Ego on the path of spiritual growth is one such feat to be achieved as much as getting rid of extra fat to get a perfect body.
In weight management, let us start with keeping a watch on your weight then with various measures we can eventually scale down the weight to desired result. Exercise can be listed on the top with fat burning strategy. Then comes diet being watchful of what quality of food goes in. Last but not the least apart from these two crucial steps to combat stubborn fat, comes very effective tool with intake of fat burning drinks.
Moving back to our main context of Ego, first step begins with keeping a watch on it, being aware of its role in blaring up a situation with its interference as to blind us from reality. This can be done with simple practice of mindful action. Being aware of what we do in what spirit, what is the intention behind our action and also to notice if our action is influenced by egoistic clamors for attention or pleasure/ leisure defeating the very purpose of our action. Second, once we get alarmed that the harm has already been done, the ill effects has seeped into our system, we may slow down the harm with antidote as Wisdom. Getting in touch with knowledge which heals our soul, seeking guidance and right remedies to do the repair. Knowledge can embalm our enraged ego to calm down and bring serenity for a while. To ensure that it remains so, we may go a little further by adopting a lifestyle that helps to keep such chances of afflictions at bay. Exercise can be deemed to be looked upon as life churning difficult situations that keep us alert as soldier ready for a battlefield. The destructive demons are vanquished harboring sharp tools of intellect, courage, acceptance and surrender. Diet is that aspect of being watchful of our intakes through five gates of sensory organs what we eat, read, watch, listen, talk, where we go or whom we befriend. All these make what we are to some extent. So we should be selective and make our choices skillfully. Last comes the potion to heal is ultimate Bliss of having Grace. The protection shield of blessings care love of our well wishers to not to be strayed away from the path of duty and living life in true human spirit with humility & gratitude.
Ego is essential just like salt to our food. Too much spoils the food and too little may make the food distasteful better to be discarded. So its like the cutting edge of a sword very sharp meant to defend but if provoked it can jolt to an abrupt end.
